Menopause Care

Menopause does not come with one set of symptoms, or one treatment.

Some women want relief from symptoms. Others want to review an existing treatment, understand their options or plan for their health after menopause. At Mahila, care begins with what is happening for you.

Menopause is one point in a longer transition

Menopause is reached after 12 consecutive months without a period. Symptoms may begin during perimenopause and continue after the final period. They can change in type and intensity over time.

You may experience hot flushes or night sweats, but menopause can also affect sleep, mood, concentration, joints, sexual health, vaginal comfort and urinary health. Some women have few symptoms. Others find that symptoms significantly affect daily life.

bone, heart and metabolic health after menopause

Your doctor may ask about the timing and effect of your symptoms, your last period, medication, previous treatment, medical and family history, and recommended health screening.

Depending on your circumstances, assessment may include a review of blood pressure, cardiovascular and metabolic risk, bone health, cancer screening and whether any tests are appropriate.

If available, bring a list of current medicines and supplements, previous results and details of any hormone or menopause treatment you have used.

Understanding menopausal hormone therapy

Understanding menopausal hormone therapy

Menopausal hormone therapy can be an effective treatment for several menopausal symptoms, but it is not the only option and it is not suitable for everyone.

The potential benefits and risks depend on factors including your age, health history, symptoms, time since menopause and the type of therapy being considered. Your doctor can explain the options relevant to you and help you make an informed decision.

If you already use MHT, review appointments provide an opportunity to discuss symptom control, side effects, changes to your health and whether the treatment remains appropriate.

Health after the final period

04

Health after the final period

Menopause care is not only about managing immediate symptoms. Changes in oestrogen and ageing can make bone, cardiovascular, metabolic, sexual and urinary health increasingly important.

Your care plan may include treatment, preventive screening, lifestyle support and review over time. The aim is to address what is affecting you now while keeping your longer-term health in view.
