Medical Weight Management
Weight is part of your health story, not the whole story.
Body weight can be influenced by hormones, metabolism, medication, sleep, stress, life stage, health conditions and more. Medical weight management looks at these factors before deciding what support may be appropriate.

This is healthcare, not a judgement
Many women have spent years cycling through diets, feeling blamed when weight changes or avoiding healthcare because every concern is attributed to their size.
At Mahila, the conversation begins with your health, your experience and what you want help with. Weight may be one measure considered alongside blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, symptoms, medical history and quality of life.
02
Your medical weight management appointment
Understand what may be influencing your weight and health.
Your doctor may ask about:
- 01
how and when your weight has changed
- 02
appetite, eating patterns and previous diets
- 03
sleep, stress, mood and energy
- 04
movement, pain and physical limitations
- 05
periods, PCOS, perimenopause or menopause
- 06
pregnancy plans and contraception
- 07
current medicines and supplements
- 08
metabolic, thyroid or other medical conditions
- 09
previous weight treatments and their effect
- 10
your goals, concerns and readiness for treatment
Assessment may include blood pressure, relevant measurements, pathology and review of cardiovascular and metabolic risk. Your doctor may also consider whether another condition or medication is contributing to weight change.
If available, bring a list of medicines and supplements, previous pathology or treatment information, and any questions about approaches you have already considered.

03
Medication is one option, not the entire plan
Prescription medicines may support weight management for some people when they are clinically appropriate. They are not suitable for everyone and can have side effects, contraindications, costs and pregnancy considerations.
If medication is being considered, your doctor will discuss the expected role of treatment, possible risks, monitoring and what may happen if it is stopped. Medicines should be prescribed as part of an individual clinical plan, not as a quick or guaranteed result.

04
A plan that can be reviewed over time
Care may include nutrition, movement, sleep, behaviour change, treatment of an underlying condition, medication or referral to another health professional. The plan should reflect your medical needs, preferences, capacity and relationship with food and body image.
Follow-up allows your doctor to review health markers, side effects, progress and whether the treatment remains appropriate. Success is not defined by one number alone.
