Athalie Paynting - Sexologist

Having completed her master's degree in human sexuality studies from Widener University, Athalie brings her expertise and over two decades of experience to the patients of Mahila Women’s Clinic. She has worked in diverse settings, including private practice, consultancy, not-for-profit organizations, higher education, and media. For the past eight years, she has assisted individuals and couples in exploring complex aspects of sexual expression, gender identity, communication, and relationships. She particularly enjoys collaborating with clients wishing to tailor their approach to intimacy through aging, chronic pain, illness, and disability. Additionally, she is deeply engaged in addressing the various needs of people navigating life transitions of perimenopause and menopause.

During her time with the National Coalition of Sexual Freedom in the U.S., she facilitated training programs for social workers, health professionals, and human service providers, focusing on distinguishing critical differences between BDSM and abuse. She has also been a featured guest lecturer and public speaker, sharing insights on sociosexual and gender politics, BDSM, and intimate partner violence.

Athalie believes in a relational and co-collaborative approach, providing a supportive environment where clients can authentically discuss deeply personal experiences. She offers a warm and non-pathologizing space for individuals of all genders, orientations, and identities, acknowledging the nuance of each person's unique lived experience.

While Athalie is trauma-informed, she is not a trauma specialist. She is able to work in tandem with other members of your care team to address the impact of sexual trauma in an integrated, comprehensive, and sensitive manner. Please note that she does not currently provide services to individuals with a forensic sexual history. While her primary availability is via telehealth, she can accommodate in-person appointments at Mahila Clinic in Camberwell.

Please make an appointment with Dr Vidya if you would like a referral for Athalie’s services.
